Hungarian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From the same root as vezet(to lead; drive) +‎ -ér(noun-forming suffix). The root is from Proto-Finno-Ugric*wetä-(to lead, guide, draw, pull).[1] Cognates include Finnishvetää. The Finno-Ugric root may be related to Proto-Indo-European*wedʰ-(to lead), either as loan or through genetic relationship.[2][3]
