Download AirPort Base Station Firmware Update for Mac - Includes general fixes, compatibility updates and security improvements for AirPort Extreme, AirPort Time Capsule and AirPort Express base stations with support for the 802.11ac or 802.11n wireless-networking standards. Open the AirPort Utility app on your Mac, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. In the graphical overview, select your base station. You may need to enter a password for the base station. If there’s an Update button next to the version number, click it to update the firmware.

You can set up AirPort Utility to automatically check for updates and notify you when they are available.

Automatically check for updates

  1. Open the AirPort Utility app on your Mac, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.

  2. Choose AirPort Utility > Preferences, then do any of the following:

    • Select “Check for updates when opening AirPort Utility” to automatically check for software and firmware updates each time you open AirPort Utility.

    • Select “Check for updates automatically,” then choose a time interval from the pop-up menu, such as Weekly, to check for software and firmware updates in the background. AirPort Utility opens if updates are available.

Manually check for updates

  1. Open the AirPort Utility app on your Mac, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.

    In the graphical overview, select your base station. You may need to enter a password for the base station.

  2. If there’s an Update button next to the version number, click it to update the firmware.

In addition to releasing software updates for Time Machine and AirPort earlier today, Apple has released a firmware update for its 802.11n wireless base stations.

Airport Base Station Firmware Update 7.8.1

Compatible with Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express firmware version 7.3.1 includes bug fixes, according to Apple. The AirPort Extreme Base Station firmware also includes security fixes.

Apple did not detail any of the bug or security fixes in the update. This update requires AirPort Utility 5.3.1 or later.
