Pokémon Sword & Shield are the second set of mainline Pokémon games on the Nintendo Switch and the first of the Generation 8 of Pokémon.
During the Nintendo Spotlight @ E3 2017, The Pokémon Company CEO, Tsunekazu Ishihara confirmed that Game Freak had begun development on the first Pokémon title for the Nintendo Switch device. No details were made about the game other than it being a core Pokémon RPG and details coming in more than a year During a press event in Japan on May 30th 2018, it was then confirmed that the Eighth Generation of Pokémon will release on the Nintendo Switch in 2019 and the games were fully unveiled during a Pokémon Direct on February 27th 2019.

This game is set in the Galar Region and features a variety of Brand New Pokémon. with hundreds of Pokémon being avalable in the Galar Pokédex. It also included new Regional Forms - Galarian Forms including some that now evolve beyond the way they used to. It also introduces the new feature Dynamax where Pokémon grow to be larger than normal and get boosted moves. Some Pokémon have special Gigantamax Forms, forms only available when they Gigantamax

The game features a story involving the Gym Challenge and going through it to beat the unbeatable Champion, Leon. In doing so, you encounter Team Yell and Macro Cosmos.
The game has many different things to do including Max Raid Battles, a variant of Raid Battles where you face giant Dynamaxed Pokémon either alone or with friends locally & online.l
It was confirmed that you can transfer Pokémon from Pokémon Bank, Pokémon Let's Go, and Pokémon GO through use of Pokémon HOME, however only if that species can be found in Pokémon Sword & Shield.
