As is often the case in Excel, the same result can be achieved in a number of different ways. So, here are three elegant alternatives to OFFSET. Since Excel 2002, we have a truly wonderful feature - fully-fledged Excel tables, as opposed to usual ranges. The Excel WEEKDAY function takes a date and returns a number between 1-7 representing the day of week. By default, WEEKDAY returns 1 for Sunday and 7 for Saturday. You can use the WEEKDAY function inside other formulas to check the day of week and react as needed. The 5-day and 7-day averages are calculated in the same way. In each case, the range provided to AVERAGE is enlarged to include the required number of days: = AVERAGE( C5:C7) // 5-day average = AVERAGE( C5:C11) // 7-day average. All formulas use a relative reference for the range supplied to the AVERAGE function. In the Excel Options dialog box, click the Add-Ins in the left bar, Keep Excel Add-Ins selected in the Manage box and then click the Go button. In the opening Add-Ins dialog box, check the Analysis ToolPak in the Add-Ins available box, and click the OK button. Now you get back to the main interface of Excel.
